Here is a recently posted sample ad for a used wood lathe online:

Sample internet auction:

Delta/Rockwell head and bed castings for a wood lathe. Headstock part number is 425-99-058-, Bed part number is 425-00-006. Bed is 48" long and the ways are 38" with a gap bed design. Bed is a two piece design pinned and bolted at the factory. Bed will be unbolted to be shipped. When complete this lathe will turn an 11" bowl over the ways. Castings are new, but have a lot of warehouse dirt, some light rust, and should be repainted. I only have a few more of these lathe castings left, they may have a bit more rust then castings previously sold, but should clean up nicely and be just as functional.

  • If your auction site allows for "sniping" (Posting a bid a the last possible moment before auction closing), then by all means snipe. Why get outbid at the last minute or get into a protracted bidding war that could run up your final price? Click here for a how-to article on sniping.
  • NOTE: AuctionStealer is a service that will snipe internet auction s automatically for you. If you're internet auction shopping, I highly recommend this - it's much more reliable than attempting to do it manually.
  • Clarify the condition of the item you are interested in if it is not listed. Caveat Emptor. (Let the buyer beware.)
  • When internet auction shopping, evaluating a seller before you place a bid. Look at the sellers other auctions. Is this item you are considering a speciality? Is it something which may be unfamiliar to the seller?
  • After you've won the auction, print out a copy of the auction page and keep it until the item arrives.
  • Save a copy of the picture on your hard drive (right click on the image and select "Save As") to compare with your purchase when it arrives.
