Antique used violin for restoration. if you are a good restorer then this is probably the violin for you. this instrument is actually in playing order now but would be a superb instrument rebuilt to modern standards. the violin is made circa 1800. possibly the work of Michael Klotz in Mittenwald, Germany. the violin bears a repair label inside 'Johannes Diehl, Mayence' circa 1830. the body length of this violin is 14 and 1/4 inches. upper bouts 6.5 inches. lower bouts 8 inches. stop length is 12 and 3/4 inches. the ribs go from 1 and 5/16ths of an inch to 1 and 3/8ths of an inch approx. there is a crack on the front of the violin above the soundpost running for about 2 inches. another crack from the left hand sound hole running down to the end of the instrument. one or two minor cracks in various places around the instrument. it also has a crack approx. 3.5 inches long in the back below the soundpost. all the cracks have been restored at some time or other and are not open. the center of the back needs re-gluing for about 2/3rds of its length. the neck looks as if it is a replacement possibly made by Diehl. it has been lifted and lengthened and is in excellent condition. the bridge is by J AND A BEARE. the tailpiece is probably circa 1830 and is made of ebony, same as the fingerboard. i can accept payment using paypal, western union, sterling cheque or sterling money order.

A very good and interesting French violin labelled `Francois Langonet a Mirecourt 1871` The back is medium /broad flamed maple in one piece, similar wood to the sides and neck/head. The front is fine/medium grained spruce of good quality. The varnish is a red /brown colour ,transparent and quite thin. The scroll is very well cut and the purfling is very well carried out. An interesting feature is the violin has 8 pins to the front and 7 to the back ,it also has two/ three ebony pins to the fingerboard ,very hard to notice them at first. I`ve been told that these features were built in for violins destined for a tropical climate. The pins have caused a few cracks to the rib areas around the blocks but these have all been repaired. There are a couple of cracks to the front, well repaired again. Also a longish crack to the back(not soundpost side which has been extremely well repaired and is not noticable in the photos. It just looks like a grain line. This aside the violin plays extremely well and the fingerboard elevation is correct. The back length is 35.4-5cm. It comes with an old case and two bows pernambucco bows that need attention. Thanks for looking. I am also selling an excellent bow ,but i forgot to put the word violin in the title so it doesn`t come up in search for violin.Look at my other items. Thanks.
